Notes

Most of the website submission policy for photos will focus on size. There are a couple things to consider when setting these guidelines, including how large will the photo ( both file sized and actual photo).

After talking with Seth and Kristina it seems that we do want photos smaller than 800 pixels wide. If we have the resolution of the photos at 72 pixels for inch, the file sizes should not be too large and the photos shouldn't take too long to load on the website.

One point Kristina brought up is that we do not want the CPJ website to be a dumping ground for drunken party photos.

More questions should we expect hard copies of photos. If so, what specifications should we have to maintain the quality of the image, after it is scanned edited and posted?

  1. Wow Jason. I think that the policy needs some kind of section or paragraph that encourages students to submit photos that aren't of drunken parties.

I'm not sure how large is large enough. To be honest, I'm not even sure what this means.

I'm pretty sure that we could scan something pretty tiny and get it to end up at 800 pixels wide without losing quality. And when are we going to get tiny photos brought in as hard copies?

    Email
    --------------------------------------
Do we really want people to email photos? Because when photos are emailed we'll have to go through the process of putting them into the website file system.

We could instead ask people to submit their photos through a form on the website that automatically processes the size of the image.

The form would also automatically require people to include the extra information that you listed – name/email/description/etc.

We can still review and edit photos as they come in, but we would save a lot of browsing/uploading work by having people submit through the website.

We can also still get email notifications of submissions.

And photos would not be visible on the site until approved by the eic or someone designated to make that decision.

I'll remove the size part of the print photo criteria.
I don't really expect anything smaller than 3X 5 inches as far as hard copies of photos go. I guess I just over thought it a little.

Also would it be possible to have some sort of form for photo submissions up this quarter? If so, how long would that take?
